Typetester - Compare Your Fonts Online And Another Cool Font Tool

Today I tested two cool online tools, which could be very interesting to use - Typetester and What the Font!?

Typetester compares up to 3 different fonts in a Lorem Ipsum text or you can create your own text. It shows the different fonts in regular, bold, italic, uppercase, small caps and more. So you can decide which style you like most.

You can also adjust the size, color, alignment… and so on. You can even copy the CSS style for the text with the certain style.

A really useful, compact and handy tool and the best of all, it’s free! Just go here to the website and try it out!

There are also other online font tools, like Font Tester. But it only shows some standard fonts to compare with.

Another interesting tool is What the Font!?

If you see a logo or picture with an interesting font you can determine what font they use with What the Font!? Just upload the picture and What the Font!? will try to find out what font it is or looks very similar to this one.

Funniest Sling Shot Videos

Have you ever been in a Sling Shot? Crazy! I did it once and probably never again. Unfortunately we didn’t check out the video, but I’m sure it was hilarious. I didn’t scream or die like those people on these videos but it would have been cool to have it as a memory. It was hilarious watching the videos, there are tons on YouTube but these are my favorites! Turn on your speakers!

The best of all! The son is screaming like hell and looks the death into the eye and his mom is just laughing. Soooo great! “Stop it! Stop it! Stop it! I’m falling! It hurts! It hurts!” I was laughing so hard!

Who is the brave guy, the big one? Not really, he nearly got a heart attack and peed in his pants. But the best part was when the other guys said at the end: “So freakin’ awesome! We gotta do this again!”

He is laughing while she is nearly dying. Her face expression at the very end is unbeatable, it looks like she will have a nervous breakdown in a second.

She is screaming and I’m sure she won’t do it again. “Never ever, ever again!”

Who is screaming like a girl? Wow, he is screaming so loud! I was surprised he did it again.

The right kid is pretty funny, screams like a girl.

You could think the left guy wants to eat a potato on this trip. He probably ate some flies on this flight!

How To Upgrade To WordPress 2.6 In 5 Minutes

It is always a pain to upgrade WordPress to the latest version. Fortunately there are some great plugins to help you out big times!

Before you start any upgrade don’t forget to backup, backup, backup! Save your files local and use the great plugin WP-DBManager by GaMerZ

Check all your plugins you use, if it may have compatibility issues with WordPress 2.6 or not. Everybody who is upgrading from 2.51/2.5 to 2.6 shouldn’t have big problems with their plugins, since there were no really big changes to 2.6. If you get an error message for a specific plugin, please contact the author of the plugin directly to make sure if it’s working in the newest WordPress Version. Or just deactivate the plugin if it’s not really important for you website.

A good resource is the compatibility plugin list for WordPress 2.6, this list gets refreshed every day, right now it’s pretty short and sweet. You can also check the compatibility plugin list on WordPress 2.5, since most of these plugins are compatible with 2.6 too.

After you checked all your plugins, you should use “The Instant Upgrade plugin for WordPress” by Alex Günsche. Install and activate the plugin, deactivate all your other plugins. Run Intstant Upgrade and after just some clicks and connecting to your ftp server, it automatically upgrades your WordPress in about a minute or less. You don’t have to do anything. Just lean back

There is also another plugin out there, “Wordpress Automatic Upgrade“, but it looks like some people have major problems with it. It has some more features as the “Instant Upgrade” plugin, like automatically deactivating and activating plugins and backup the files automatically. But especially recently, people had a complete disaster with this plugin and the author unfortunately is not very responsive lately.

Just FYI, when I did the upgrade today, the admin page reloaded without a flaw but the website only showed a list of my files, that’s because the files were not uploaded yet. Just wait for a minute and don’t panic. After a minute my website worked fine again.

One person were commenting (No. 46) in my previous tutorial, that it took about an hour that the plugin updated everything. Reason might be loads of plugins, slow internet connection or the WordPress server was slow and he updated from 2.05 to the newest version. But this is the absolute exception. But after that, his blog worked fine.
Also don’t use any of these plugins when you installed WordPress via Fantastico.

Firefox 3 With Guinness World Record, New Logo And Interesting New Add-ons

I’m a proud participant of the successful attempt to get the Guinness World Record of the most downloaded software within 24 hours. I even got a certificate. It’s in German though, but I guess you get the idea.

I belong to over 8 million people who helped to make this world record happen.

Until now I’m pretty happy with Firefox 3, even though I’m still missing some really good Add-ons to be Firefox 3 compatible, like Tab Mix Plus. But I was surprised that Google Browser Sync won’t be available anymore. Instead you should switch to Mozilla Weave. For everybody who doesn’t know what Google Browser Sync or Mozilla Weave are, these are 2 Add-ons, which continuously synchronizes your browser settings – including bookmarks, history, persistent cookies, and saved passwords – across your computers. It also allows you to restore open tabs and windows across different machines and browser sessions. I was always happy with Google Browser Sync, whereas Mozilla Weave still has some bugs. Ok, it’s just Version 0.2 but some things are not working so great right now. For example, it takes sometimes several minutes to synchronize after shutting down Firefox. It took only seconds with Google Browser Sync. But I’m sure the developing team will work hard on these kind of bugs to fix it very fast. You can download Mozilla Weave here!

Another interesting Add-on is RAM Back, this add-on only clears the internet memory cache of sites not currently loaded in your browser. Sometimes I have over 100 tabs open for days and it happens that Firefox uses 1,2 GB Memory since already closed websites are still in cache. I’m forced to restart my browser to free up some RAM, fortunately that is not necessary anymore with RAM Back.

There are also rumors that Mozilla is working on a new Firefox 3 logo. A first secret draft got released to public through a leak in Mozilla’s Headquarter of Logo Development:

Turn a $5 Steak into a $50 Steak And How To Know A Steak Is Done!

Summer has arrived and 4th of July is coming soon. A great day to put some big steaks on your grill.

I found out about a method to turn a $5 Steak into a $50 Steak á la Versace and it’s pretty easy! I tried it out several times already and it works out great. My guests were always amazed of my steaks and they thought I spent a fortune on some really good steaks but the truth was, I bought some cheap steaks at Walmart. When I told them, they couldn’t believe it since it tasted like in a 5 star restaurant.

The secret is just simply, put massively salt on your steak for at least 15 minutes - 1 hour before grilling. You literally have to coat the steak on both sides in salt, like in the picture. Depending on the thickness of the steak leave the salt on it for 15 min. - 1 hour. After that rinse and pat it very dry. I’m talking about very dry! And no worries, it won’t taste like pure salt, it will taste tender and juicy.

Here is a little timetable how long you should coat your steak in salt

thickness of the steak >> salt/side >> time
less than 1″ >> 1/2 tsp/side >> 15 min.
1″-1.5″ >> 1/2 tsp/side >> 20 - 45 min.
more than 1.5″ >> 3/4 - 1 tsp/side >> 1 hr

(this is just a recommendation, if you like your food salty anyways you might keep it a little bit longer on it, if you don’t like it salty, don’t leave the salt as long as in this timetable recommended.)

Very important!

Use Kosher or Sea Salt, not normal table salt.
Use steaks at least 1″ thick.
For this method use NY Strip, T-Bone, Ribeye or Porterhouse Steak but no Sirloin. It works with chicken too.
For a first trial, leave the salt a little bit less on your steak, it’s better to have it not so juicy and tender instead of having it completely salty, try it out what’s the best for your taste.
Leave the salt at least 15 min. on your steak, it won’t work. The salt should be a little liquid after 15 min. or more.

Who likes to have a special tasty kick, should also put some garlic, rosemary and other spices on it, while it’s coated with salt.

Some other tips:

When you buy the meat, don’t go for the red one with fresh blood on it, check out the brownish one. Of course, only if you plan to grill on the same day or the next day.

Put the steak on a very hot grill, not just a little bit hot. I has to sizzle when you put it on. In direct fire for 4-8 min. depends how you like your steak. And please don’t cut the meat to check out if the steak is ready. Big mistake. Instead use this method:

With your hand you can check if the steak is raw, medium or done. Just press the spots on the hand and compare it to the steak with a spoon to press on the steak.

Rare, meat should feel soft and has little resistance to pressure.
Medium, meat should feel firm, but still a little bit of give to it. The less give, the more well-done the steak will be.
Well done, steak should feel firm, but has only minimal give to it.

Indiana Jones - Spielbergs Sloppy Directing Was A Disappointment!

I was really exciting to see the new Indiana Jones movie, but it wasn’t near what I expected. It wasn’t really bad or crap -no! But in comparison to the other Indiana Jones movies it was surely the worst. It won’t be a movie I will remember for a long time and neither will it make any movie history. It was just an average plain movie, not more and not less.

I have to say, I have a special connection to the Indiana Jones movies. Because Indiana Jones and the last crusade was the first movie I’ve ever seen in a movie theater. I know, I was already 12 when I watched it, pretty late to be the first time in a movie theater. But in our small city wasn’t a movie theater yet.

I can remember as it was yesterday, my brother gave me the tickets for my birthday and we drove to the next biggest city with my old buddy Eddy and watched the movie. It was a really great movie, great story, cool action, awesome actors and Harrison Ford on the peak of his career. I was still talking about the movie even weeks after I watched it. Even today I think it is a great movie.

Harrison Ford is one of my favorite actors and he did his role as Indiana Jones pretty good, with humor, charme and his grumpy mood. I cannot imagine another actor is playing Indiana Jones except Harrison Ford. Even though Tom Selleck got offered the role first.

So why do I think Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of Crystal Skull was a disappointment?

First of all the cast, the son has nothing similar to Indiana Jones, he doesn’t look like him and he doesn’t have the same humor, charme and grumpy mood what makes Indiana Jones so great. The same with the other actors, Cate Blanchett can do better, this role wasn’t right for her to play just a stupid role as a Russian spy. She needs more insightful roles with character. The only actor I thought was good was John Hurt as professor Oxley. He didn’t say much but he played the crazy professor pretty good. All the other characters weren’t impressive at all.

But what really annoyed me was the sloppy work of Steven Spielberg.

Sometimes the skull was strong magnetic and sometimes not at all. They passed by the skull next to metal and nothing happened at all sometimes. Also the scene where they have a big truck to cut all trees and bushes to create a path through the jungle. After Indy destroyed the truck, they were still able to have a car chase in the middle of the jungle and suddenly there were even two paths available until the waterfall - come on!

Some other scenes were also ridiculous, for example when Mutt was swinging like Tarzan through the jungle.

What I also didn’t understand, why did Indy try to rescue Mac at the end of the movie, even though he tried to kill him and was working for the Russians. I was surprised anyway, that Mac was still alive after the big crash he had in the big ware house at the beginning of the movie. Where he crashed together with a truck. He wasn’t even hurt!

The same miracle in the scene when they got thrown out by the water at the end, after 2 seconds, nobody was wet anymore at all. They were bone-dry.

Of course, Indiana Jones is an action and fantasy movie, where 100 bullets won’t hit him, you can expect that, but a director like Steven Spielberg should pay more attention to the detail.

How did you like the movie? Probably you think I am too critical, but you should expect little bit more from a crew like them.

I just found an interesting website, where you can see all errors of many movies, here are some of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I didn’t spot most of them and I’m normally not that critical but some errors where so obvious.

All Important Files Saved? A ToDo List Before Re-Installing Your Computer!

Does it sound familiar? Your computer is so slow, cluttered with crap of files and spam ware or there is a critical error in your operating system, you can’t get rid off except reinstalling the whole machine? Or you just want to clean up your Computer, a fresh new start.

But many times it happens that you forgot to backup important files before you re-install.

In my case I bought a new desktop and sold my old one. So I saved what I wanted to save and put it on the new one. Unfortunately I forgot to save all the log files of conversation in my chat program - bummer! Too late, I was already installing a fresh operating system on my old computer.

So which data do you need and remember not to forget?

Of course, your own files. If you use Windows it would be in ‘My Documents’ or ‘Documents’. Little advice, it’s always better to have their own files on a separate hard drive or partition then the operating system. So it would be much easier to reinstall the operating system if you have a system crash without losing your data if you reinstall your operating system.

You should have a list of all installed programs with you. The original CD with license code and password. Also where you can download some programs from the internet.

Those things are obvious, but sometimes we forget files, which we are using everyday but aren’t so essential or at least they don’t look like. Many of these files a buried and hidden in many sub folders. This is why I forgot to save some files in the past. It’s better to have a list in front of you to avoid this.

Here is my list of things I have to safe before I format my computer and reinstall everything:

My Documents
List of installed Programs with license key
Emails and Contacts in Outlook or other mail program
Login information of my chat programs like Yahoo, AIM, Skype, MSN, ICQ or Google Talk
Login information of email accounts, ftp accounts and wlan
Log files of all conversations in Yahoo, AIM, Skype, MSN, ICQ or Google Talk, since they are saved local
Browser history and cookies
Files of password program
Driver, if original CD of the computer isn’t there anymore
Bookmarks
Other user preferences and adjustments like in Photoshop “Actions” or in Dreamweaver “Site Management”

Fortunately there are some data you can save online now a days, like bookmarks, but many things are saved local and lost forever if you don’t backup probably.
